Learning Management Suite (LMS)

These are tools for managing, creating, scheduling training or learning in your organization. The terminology varies from vendor to vendor. Learning management systems (LMS) typically help to manage both classroom and on-line learning. They do not normally include content creation or management tools but may in some cases. Some LMSs may manage just classroom or just e-learning rather than both. Some LMSs may also include content authoring and managment and virtual classrooms. Learning content management systems (LCMS) emphasize the management of content for courses/training/learning. In most cases, they include content authoring tools. In some cases, they may also include some of the features of LMSs. Content authoring tools are often provided as part of an LCMS. They may also be stand-alone products. Virtual classrooms (web conferencing tools) normally are separate third party offerings but may be included as part of a suite of tools. Suites of tools include features of at least two or more of the above categories. While some companies offer just LMS or LCMS systems others offer suites of products, which provide all or most of the features of the other tools. Suites combine several capabilities of learning management--usually two or more of the following: learning management, classroom training management, e-learning management, custom content creation, learning content management, learning object repositories, or virtual classrooms.

Integrated Lean Giving ERP the Flexibility to Push and Pull

Current manufacturing practices have been made cumbersome by the imposition of data recording activities required by manufacturing systems through the release, issuing, and expediting of the infamous work order. An integrated lean system utilizes full containers to signal the completion of product and backflushes the component material within the ERP system. Additionally, the integrated lean system (pull) can work simultaneously and in harmony with your MRP planning (push) to schedule your shop floor bottlenecks so that the bottleneck becomes the heartbeat (pull) for the remainder of the plant. Although originally scheduled, the bottleneck may use the integrated lean backflush routines as well! This white paper defines the integrated lean environment.

Pull vs Push: a Discussion of Lean, JIT, Flow, and Traditional MRP Part Two: Challenges and User Recommendations

While lean/flow leverages practices to stay ahead of actual demand, traditional approaches better coordinate secondary, back-office systems like accounting and HR. Moreover, flow should be a company-wide strategy that impacts more than manufacturing.

GMS Accounting and Financial Management System

The GMS Accounting and Financial Management/Reporting System integrates all accounting activity into an entity-wide system. The GMS Accounting system is not sold as separate modules, but rather as a package containing all the necessary functions to run your not-for-profit on a daily basis. Our underlying system design is entity-wide, providing you an integrated accounting system that performs all accounting activities. Systems are available in a 1–2 user version, a 3–4 user version, and a 5-or-more user version, either in Access or SQL Server applications. GMS has add-on software that can be purchased in addition to the basic package, including accounts receivable (AR), purchase orders (POs), direct deposit, fixed assets, and report writer. GMS also has a myriad of additional supplements to enhance your reporting features and that fit specific applications within your agency. GMS is designed to handle activity accounting. It is not a fund accounting system, but a grant and contract accounting system created and written specifically to account for grants, contracts, and activities. Key features include compliance with Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) 116 and 117 (requirements that all not-for-profit organizations follow); accounting, reporting, and budget monitoring for multiple grants and contracts, even if they have differing funding periods; multiple ways to handle important cost allocation issues for common costs, general and administrative costs, indirect costs, fringe benefits, leave costs, and various specialized cost pools; and a variety of ways to comply with all major Office of Management and Budget (OMB) Circulars. Our clients are exclusively not-for-profit and public organizations. They range in size from two to more than 1,000 employees.

J.D. Edwards - A Collaboration Thought Leader Or A Disguised ERP Follower? Part 1: About J.D. Edwards

Like most of its peers, J.D. Edwards is hoping to rebound by focusing on Internet collaboration and extended-ERP applications. The company has also differentiated itself from competitors by embedding Enterprise Application Integration (EAI) into its OneWorld product. While J.D. Edwards' move into the EAI arena is indisputably risky, we commend its determination to bite the bullet and include integration systems into the core product offering. However, we also believe that managing this large application portfolio, much of which involves partnering or extensive integration and customization, will be cumbersome. Part 1 presents an overview
