Symix Systems Front-Steps Into Greener e-Commerce Pastures

Like many of its peers, Symix Systems, one of the leading mid-market enterprise applications vendors, has been making a big push into the e-commerce market. A new Symix subsidiary called Frontstep, which was formed in January 2000, has been actively rounding out its e-business product and strategic consulting service offerings through acquisitions, internal development and partner relationships. These products and services are still sold under the Symix brand name, however, at the expense of Symix reporting losses for the last two quarters.

Is MAPICS Getting the Magic of PLM? Part One: Recent Events and Market Impact

The former die-hard IBM AS/400-based enterprise resource planning (ERP) supplier to mid-market manufacturing companies, MAPICS, seems to have found its soul after the recent acquisition of its former competitor Frontstep and Frontstep's extended-ERP product line on a Microsoft .NET-based technology platform. While another acquisition of an ERP competitor is not very likely, MAPICS seems to have rather opted for lateral acquisitions of strategic extension products, starting with the MAGIK! PLM product.

With MAPICS SyteLine ERP release 7 , whose localized solutions were delivered in France, Germany, Mexico, Japan, and Italy during the quarter, the vendor now boasts a notable application built on a Microsoft .NET architecture. Analyzing MAPICS' Further Steps After Frontstep Part Three: Market Impact

Much has changed, while much has remained the same at MAPICS during 2003. With the February finalization of the Frontstep acquisition, MAPICS has become quite a large enterprise applications provider, which positions the vendor near (if not at) the top among vendors that focus on the mid-size discrete manufacturing market.

Frontstep (Nee Symix Systems) A Step Closer To A Turnaround

While Frontstep reported its fourth consecutive loss in Q2 2001, which was also the first quarter the company operated under the new name, the latest license income increase and success in balancing product/services offerings mix, might bode well for the company’s return to profitability.

Ambitious Plans and Promises: An Enterprise Software Provider Keeps Its Word

With its numerous new software license sales, new product deliveries, and its dedication to complicated technological rejuvenation (namely, an ambitious open service-oriented architecture strategy), Infor's position and image in the market these days are at an all-time high.

syteline symix  the Oracle database, the SyteLine product version on the Progress Software database, and the OpenEdge development platform (see Frontstep Ups the .NET Ante ) were all discontinued, with barely a qualm. Little thought or effort (if any at all) was given to ongoing enhancements and support for older product releases (some of which are still used by thousands of relatively happy—albeit disconcerted—users, and still in need of ongoing upgrades), especially not to how to enable smoother migrations to the Read More
